🙏 Devotion: When “They Say” Isn’t the Final Word
There are moments in life where the loudest voices aren’t cruel—they’re just certain.
“They say this is how it goes.”
“They say you should prepare.”
“They say there’s nothing more to do.”
And sometimes… those voices sound convincing.
In Acts of the Apostles 20:31, Paul says, “Be alert.” He’s warning people to stay awake—not just physically, but spiritually. To not drift into passively accepting whatever comes.
Because it’s easy to do that.
It’s easy to let fear define the ending before the story has actually finished.
But faith doesn’t always shout.
Sometimes it just quietly refuses to agree.
It says:
Maybe this isn’t over.
Maybe there’s more happening than I can see.
Maybe hope is still alive here.
You don’t have to ignore reality to have faith.
You just don’t have to let reality be the only voice you listen to.
“They say” might be loud.
But it doesn’t have to be final.
🙏 Prayer
God,
There are so many voices telling us how things will turn out.
Some of them are wise… but some of them leave no room for hope.
Teach us how to stay awake.
When fear feels overwhelming, remind us that You are still present.
When the outcome looks certain, remind us that You are still able.
And when we feel like letting go, give us the strength to hold on just a little longer.
For the person reading this who is carrying something heavy—
bring peace into their uncertainty,
strength into their weakness,
and light into whatever feels dark right now.
Help us trust You, even when we don’t understand.
Amen.
