Open Our Eyes

"Open my eyes that I may behold wonderful things from Your law." — Psalm 119:18

There is a difference between looking and truly seeing.

Every day we see thousands of things—people, news, problems, opportunities—but spiritual vision is different. Spiritual sight allows us to recognize God's hand at work even when circumstances seem confusing.

The writer of Psalm 119 understood this. He didn't ask God for more intelligence or greater ability. Instead, he prayed a simple but powerful prayer: "Open my eyes."

That prayer is still needed today.

Sometimes our eyes become clouded by fear. We only see obstacles.

Sometimes they're clouded by disappointment. We only see what we've lost.

Sometimes they're clouded by pride. We only see ourselves.

But when God opens our eyes, everything changes.

We begin to notice His faithfulness in places we overlooked. We recognize answered prayers that arrived differently than we expected. We see people through the compassion of Christ instead of through frustration or judgment. We discover opportunities to serve where we once saw inconvenience.

Most importantly, we begin to see Jesus more clearly.

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus healed many who were physically blind. Those miracles revealed something even greater: He came to heal spiritual blindness as well. He opens hearts that have been closed, minds that have been confused, and lives that have wandered in darkness.

Seeing God isn't about having perfect circumstances. It's about having a heart that is willing to let Him reveal His truth.

Every morning can begin with the same prayer:

"Lord, open my eyes today. Help me see Your presence before I notice my problems. Help me see people the way You see them. Help me recognize the doors You're opening and the lessons You're teaching. Let me never become so distracted that I miss what You're doing."

God delights in answering that prayer.

As He opens your eyes, you'll discover that He has been working all along—even in the places you least expected.

Prayer

Father,

Open my eyes to see You more clearly today.

Help me recognize Your presence in every circumstance and Your faithfulness in every season. Remove anything that keeps me from seeing Your truth. Replace fear with faith, doubt with confidence, and distraction with worship.

Teach me to see people through Your love and to walk where You lead.

Thank You for being the Light that guides every step.
