My Name Is Written
Key Scripture
"However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." — Luke 10:20
Our Greatest Identity
We spend much of life trying to answer one question: Who am I?
The world encourages us to build our identity around careers, accomplishments, relationships, possessions, or reputation. Those things can all change in a moment. Jobs disappear. Health declines. People disappoint us. Even our own hearts can condemn us.
Jesus points us to something that never changes.
When the seventy-two disciples returned from ministry, they were excited about the miracles they had witnessed. They celebrated the authority God had given them. Yet Jesus redirected their joy toward something far greater.
"Rejoice that your names are written in heaven."
Their greatest blessing wasn't what they had done for God.
It was what God had done for them.
The same is true for every believer today.
Our confidence isn't built on a perfect record.
It's built on the perfect Savior.
Grace Wrote the Story
No one earns a place in God's family.
No amount of good works can erase our sin. No religious effort can purchase eternal life.
Jesus accomplished what we never could.
Through His death and resurrection, He made forgiveness available to everyone who believes in Him.
Because of His grace, our names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
That truth changes everything.
We no longer live trying to earn God's acceptance.
We live because we have already received it through Christ.
When Doubt Whispers
There are days when our failures seem louder than God's promises.
The enemy loves to remind us of yesterday.
God reminds us of eternity.
When guilt resurfaces, remember the cross.
When fear overwhelms you, remember the empty tomb.
When you wonder if God still loves you, remember that Jesus gave His life so you could belong to Him forever.
His promises are stronger than your emotions.
His faithfulness is greater than your weakness.
His grace reaches farther than your failures.
Live Like You Belong
Knowing your name is written in heaven doesn't make you passive.
It makes you fearless.
You can forgive because you've been forgiven.
You can love because you've been loved.
You can serve because your future is secure.
You don't have to chase the world's approval when you've already been welcomed into God's family.
Every act of obedience becomes an expression of gratitude rather than an attempt to earn favor.
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for giving me an identity that cannot be taken away. Thank You that my hope rests completely in Jesus and not in my own efforts. Help me to live with confidence, humility, and joy, knowing that I belong to You.
When doubts come, remind me of Your promises. When fear tries to take hold, help me remember that my future is secure in Christ. Let my life reflect the gratitude of someone whose name is written in heaven.
Use me today to share Your love with those who need hope, and may everything I do bring glory to Your name.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Reflection
Today, don't measure your worth by your performance.
Don't measure it by your past.
Don't measure it by someone else's opinion.
Measure it by the cross.
If you belong to Jesus Christ, then this glorious truth remains:
My name is written.
And that is reason enough to worship.
