Living Water
Scripture: Jeremiah 2:12–13
There’s something deeply honest about this passage.
God isn’t just calling out sin — He’s exposing a pattern:
We walk away from what gives us life… and then try to replace it with things that can’t sustain us.
A spring of living water versus broken cisterns.
One flows endlessly.
The other leaks constantly.
And yet, we still choose the cisterns.
Why?
Because they’re familiar.
Because they’re controllable.
Because they’re right in front of us.
We chase success, relationships, validation, distractions — hoping something will finally satisfy the thirst inside. But sooner or later, it all runs dry.
And that’s where grace meets us.
God doesn’t say, “Figure it out.”
He says, “Come back.”
Back to the source.
Back to the water.
Back to Him.
Jesus echoes this same invitation in the New Testament: whoever comes to Him will never thirst again.
Today is an opportunity to stop digging.
Stop striving.
Stop searching in empty places.
And return to the One who never runs dry.
Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve looked everywhere but You to satisfy my soul. Show me the broken wells in my life and give me the courage to walk away from them. Draw me back to You — the source of living water. Fill me again. In Jesus’ name, amen.
