Jesus, Open My Eyes

Daily Devotion

Jesus, Open My Eyes
Scripture: Matthew 13:11–17

In Matthew 13, Jesus explains why He often spoke in parables. Some people heard His stories but never truly understood them. Their ears heard the words, but their hearts were closed. Yet Jesus tells His disciples something beautiful: “Blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.” (Matthew 13:16).

The difference wasn’t intelligence or education—it was the condition of the heart. Those who came to Jesus with humility and hunger were given understanding. Those who hardened their hearts missed the truth right in front of them.

The song “Jesus, Open My Eyes” echoes this same prayer. Every day we are surrounded by God’s truth—through Scripture, through His Spirit, and through the ways He moves in our lives. Yet it’s easy to become distracted, busy, or spiritually numb. We can hear God’s Word without really letting it sink in.

But Jesus invites us to come close and ask for more. When we pray, “Jesus, open my eyes,” we are asking Him to help us see His kingdom at work. When we ask Him to open our ears, we are asking for hearts that truly listen and respond.

God delights in revealing Himself to those who seek Him. The mysteries of His kingdom are not hidden from us to keep us away—they are revealed to draw us deeper into relationship with Him.

Today, take a moment to pray the simple prayer from the song:
“Jesus, open my eyes. Help me see what You are doing. Open my ears so I can hear Your voice.”

You may be surprised how much God has been speaking all along.

Reflection:
Where might God be speaking to you today that you may have overlooked?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see Your truth and open my ears to hear Your voice. Soften my heart so I can understand Your Word and recognize Your work in my life. Help me live with awareness of Your kingdom every day. Amen.
