Grace In the Ruins

Scripture: Ezra 9:6–9

One of the most powerful parts of Ezra’s prayer is its honesty.

He doesn’t pretend everything is fine. He openly admits the people’s guilt and how far they had drifted from God. Their sin, he says, had piled up to the heavens.

Yet right in the middle of that confession comes a surprising statement:

God had not abandoned them.

Instead, Ezra says God had given them “a moment of grace” — a chance to rebuild the temple and repair the ruins.

This reveals something important about God’s character.

God does not run away from broken people.
He moves toward them.

Many of us know what it feels like to look at the wreckage of our lives — broken relationships, bad decisions, seasons where we drifted from God.

But God specializes in rebuilding.

The ruins don’t disqualify us.
Sometimes they are the very place where God begins His restoration.

When God gives grace, it doesn’t just forgive the past — it creates a future.

Just like the people in Ezra’s time, God invites us to step into that grace and begin rebuilding.

Prayer

Lord,
You see every broken place in my life. Nothing is hidden from You. Thank You for not abandoning me in my failures. Thank You for Your mercy and the grace You give to rebuild what has been damaged. Help me trust that You are still working in my life, even in the ruins.
