Gentle Like You

Devotion – Gentle Like You

Scripture:
"Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." — Matthew 11:29 (ESV)

The world often celebrates strength that dominates, wins arguments, and demands attention. Jesus revealed a different kind of strength. He described Himself as "gentle and humble in heart." The One who spoke galaxies into existence also welcomed children, touched those society rejected, and patiently restored those who had failed.

Gentleness is not weakness. It is strength under God's control. It chooses mercy over revenge, patience over anger, and kindness over harshness. It reflects a heart that trusts God enough to surrender pride and respond with grace.

As we spend time with Jesus, His character begins to shape ours. The Holy Spirit softens our hearts, making us more patient with our families, more compassionate toward strangers, and quicker to forgive those who hurt us. Becoming "gentle like Him" is part of becoming more like Christ.

Today, ask the Lord to help your words heal instead of wound, your actions encourage instead of discourage, and your heart reflect the gentle love of your Savior.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for showing me what true gentleness looks like. Thank You for loving me with patience, compassion, and grace even when I fall short.

Shape my heart to become more like Yours. Help my words bring peace, my actions show kindness, and my life reflect Your love. Teach me to respond with humility instead of pride and with mercy instead of judgment.

May others see Your gentle heart through me today.

In Your holy name,
Amen.
