From the First Light
Scripture: Genesis 1:1–4
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth… And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”
Before there was form, before there was order, before there was life—there was God. The opening lines of Genesis remind us that everything begins with Him. When the earth was formless and empty, God spoke light into the darkness. The very first act recorded in Scripture after creation begins is the breaking of darkness by His voice.
The song From the First Light points our hearts back to that moment. It reminds us that the God who spoke light into existence is the same God who speaks into our lives today. When we feel lost, uncertain, or surrounded by darkness, we are not beyond His reach. The same voice that said, “Let there be light” still carries the power to transform chaos into beauty and confusion into clarity.
Sometimes our lives can feel like Genesis 1:2—formless, empty, and covered in darkness. But the story doesn’t end there. God moves. God speaks. And light comes.
From the first light of creation to the new light He brings into our hearts, God has always been in the business of bringing life out of darkness. Every sunrise, every new beginning, every moment of grace is a reminder that His light still shines.
So today, remember this: the light you need doesn’t come from your own strength or understanding. It comes from the Creator who has been lighting the darkness since the beginning.
And just like the first morning of creation, His light is enough.
Prayer
Lord, You are the God of the first light. You spoke light into the darkness at the beginning, and You still bring light into our lives today. When my heart feels uncertain or overshadowed, remind me that Your voice is powerful enough to change everything. Shine Your light into every corner of my life and lead me in Your truth. Thank You for being the God who brings beauty out of chaos and hope out of darkness. Amen.
