Devotion – From The Deep

Scripture

"Out of the depths I cry to You, Lord; Lord, hear my voice."
— Psalm 130:1 (NIV)

There are moments in life when words are hard to find. We feel buried beneath disappointment, guilt, loneliness, or fear. It seems as though we're calling from the bottom of a valley with no strength left to climb.

Psalm 130 begins in exactly that place. The psalmist doesn't pretend everything is fine. He cries honestly, "Out of the depths I cry to You."

God welcomes that kind of prayer.

Our Heavenly Father is never intimidated by our weakness. He doesn't wait until we've cleaned ourselves up before listening. He hears the humble heart that reaches for Him.

The beautiful turning point in this psalm is hope. The writer remembers that with the Lord there is forgiveness, unfailing love, and full redemption. The depths are not the end of the story. God's grace is.

Maybe today you feel overwhelmed by circumstances you can't control. Maybe you're carrying regret from yesterday or uncertainty about tomorrow. Keep calling on the Lord. His timing is perfect, His mercy is endless, and His faithfulness has never failed.

The One who hears your cry is also the One who lifts your head.

No matter how deep the valley, His love reaches deeper.

Prayer

Father,

When I find myself in the deepest places, remind me that You are never far away. Hear my cry, strengthen my faith, and help me wait patiently for You. Thank You for Your forgiveness, Your mercy, and Your unfailing love. Lift my eyes from my circumstances to Your promises, and let my life always testify that You are faithful.
