Fill This House
Matthew 12:43–45
In Gospel of Matthew 12:43–45, Jesus tells a sobering story. An impure spirit leaves a person and wanders through dry places seeking rest. Finding none, it says, “I will return to the house I left.” When it comes back, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean, and put in order. So it brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and the final condition of that person is worse than the first.
The warning is clear: being emptied isn’t the same as being filled.
“Fill This House” is more than a lyric—it’s a desperate prayer. Because a clean house without the presence of God is still vulnerable. We can sweep up habits, break patterns, and tidy our behavior. We can look spiritually organized on the outside. But if the Holy Spirit does not occupy every room, the emptiness invites invasion.
Jesus isn’t just concerned with what leaves your life. He cares about Who moves in.
When we invite Christ to dwell within us, He doesn’t just redecorate—He takes residence. He doesn’t temporarily visit—He reigns. The Holy Spirit fills the house with light, truth, peace, and power. Darkness has no authority where Jesus lives.
Today, don’t settle for being “clean.” Ask to be filled.
Don’t aim for moral improvement alone—pursue spiritual occupation.
Don’t just evict the enemy—enthrone the King.
Let your heart echo the song:
Fill this house.
Every room, every space.
Holy Spirit, have Your way.
Prayer
Father, I don’t want to live spiritually empty. Cleanse me, yes—but more than that, fill me. Fill every hidden room of my heart with Your Spirit. Where there has been dryness, bring living water. Where there has been silence, speak truth. Where there has been vacancy, take Your rightful place. Jesus, You are welcome here. Not as a guest, but as Lord.
Fill this house. Amen.
