Father Of Lies
Devotion:
In John 8:44, Jesus speaks plainly about the enemy—he calls him the father of lies. That means deception is his native language. Lies about who God is. Lies about who you are. Lies about your past, your worth, and your future.
And if we’re honest, some of those lies don’t sound obvious. They come quietly—like thoughts we assume are our own: “You’re not enough.” “You’ve gone too far.” “You’ll never change.”
But here’s the truth: the enemy can only lie—he cannot create truth.
That means every lie you’ve believed has an answer in God’s Word.
God says you are chosen.
God says you are forgiven.
God says you are made new.
The tension we live in is learning to recognize the difference between those two voices. One brings fear, shame, and confusion. The other brings peace, clarity, and life.
You don’t defeat lies by trying harder—you defeat them by standing in truth.
Today, don’t just ignore the lies—replace them.
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for being the God of truth. Thank You that Your voice is steady, clear, and full of life.
Help me to recognize the lies I’ve been believing—especially the ones I’ve accepted without questioning. Give me discernment to hear Your voice above every other voice.
Where the enemy has spoken fear, speak Your peace.
Where he has spoken shame, remind me of Your grace.
Where he has spoken doubt, anchor me in Your truth.
I choose today to reject every lie that doesn’t come from You.
I choose to believe what You say about me.
Teach me to walk in truth daily—not just in what I say, but in what I believe deep in my heart.
I belong to You, not to the voice of the enemy.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
