Devotion: Day and Night

Scripture: Psalm 1:2
"But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night."

Most people think of Bible reading as another task to check off a list. Psalm 1 paints a very different picture. The blessed person doesn't simply read God's Word—they delight in it.

Delight changes everything.

When we delight in something, we naturally return to it. We think about it throughout the day. We treasure it. We make time for it because it feeds something deep within us.

The psalmist says that God's Word becomes a constant companion—something we meditate on day and night. This doesn't mean we spend every waking moment reading a Bible. It means God's truth becomes woven into the fabric of our daily lives. His promises shape our decisions. His wisdom influences our conversations. His love steadies our hearts.

The world constantly offers competing voices. News headlines, social media feeds, fears, opinions, and worries all demand our attention. Yet God's voice remains the one voice that never changes and never fails.

The more we fill our minds with His truth, the more we begin to see life from His perspective.

Today, spend a few moments not just reading Scripture but delighting in it. Read slowly. Listen carefully. Allow God's Word to settle into your heart. Let it become the soundtrack of your day and the comfort of your night.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us Your Word as a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. Help me not to see Scripture as a duty but as a delight. Teach me to treasure Your truth above the distractions of this world.

Fill my mind with Your promises, guide my steps with Your wisdom, and draw me closer to You each day. May Your Word shape my thoughts, strengthen my faith, and remind me of Your presence wherever I go.

I choose today to keep my eyes on You, trusting that Your truth will never fail.
