Devotion: Hold On

James 1:12 (NIV)

"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

Devotional Thought

Nobody enjoys trials.

We pray for breakthroughs, not battles. We ask for smooth roads, not steep climbs. Yet James tells us that there is a blessing waiting for those who persevere.

Perseverance is more than simply surviving. It is choosing to trust God when circumstances tempt us to quit. It is waking up one more day and saying, "Lord, I still believe You are good."

God never promised that life would be free from difficulty. What He did promise is that He would never leave us in the middle of it. Every trial becomes an opportunity to grow closer to Him, depend on Him more deeply, and discover His faithfulness in ways we never could during easy seasons.

The crown of life mentioned in James 1:12 is not earned by perfection. It is promised to those who continue loving God through the struggle.

Today, if you're weary, discouraged, or wondering how much longer you can endure, remember this: God sees your faithfulness. He sees every unseen sacrifice, every whispered prayer, and every step forward you take in obedience.

Keep holding on.

The One you're holding onto is holding onto you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being faithful through every season of life. When trials come and my strength feels small, help me keep my eyes fixed on You. Give me courage to persevere, wisdom to trust Your plan, and peace that rises above my circumstances.

Teach me to love You not only in moments of blessing but also in moments of testing. Remind me that every challenge is temporary, but Your promises are eternal.

Help me hold on to You with confidence, knowing that You are working all things together for good. Thank You for the hope of the crown of life and for the assurance that You never leave Your children alone.
