Bold In Your Name
Acts 4:29–31
In Acts 4, the believers were under pressure. They had been warned. Threatened. Commanded to be silent about Jesus. But instead of praying for safety, they prayed for boldness.
“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness… Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” (Acts 4:29–30)
And what happened?
“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” (Acts 4:31)
The song Bold Is Your Name echoes this same cry. It’s not just declaring that Jesus’ name is powerful — it’s proclaiming that His name is fearless, unshaken, unstoppable. His name stands firm when culture resists it. His name heals. His name saves. His name breaks chains.
The early church understood something we must remember: boldness doesn’t come from personality. It comes from the Holy Spirit.
They didn’t manufacture courage. They asked for it.
When they prayed, heaven responded. The room shook. The Spirit filled them. And their voices rose louder than their fear.
If you feel intimidated today — at work, in your family, in conversations about faith — don’t shrink back. Pray the prayer of Acts 4. Ask God not for comfort, but for courage. Not for escape, but for empowerment.
The name of Jesus is not timid. It is not fragile. It does not retreat.
His name is bold.
And when the Holy Spirit fills you, you carry that boldness wherever you go.
Prayer
Lord, consider the pressures around me. See the places where I feel hesitant or afraid. Fill me again with Your Holy Spirit. Make me bold to speak Your truth with love and conviction. Stretch out Your hand in power, and let the name of Jesus be lifted high through my life. Shake anything in me that is rooted in fear, and anchor me in courage. Bold is Your name — let it be boldly declared through me. Amen.
