Bless Them Anyway

“Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” — Gospel of Luke 6:28

Jesus doesn’t lower the bar when it comes to love — He raises it.

In Luke 6:28, Jesus calls us to something supernatural:
Not just to ignore those who hurt us.
Not just to tolerate them.
But to bless them anyway.

The song Bless Them Anyway echoes this upside-down Kingdom truth. When someone wounds you, slanders you, overlooks you, or misunderstands you, everything in your flesh wants justice, distance, or retaliation. But Jesus invites us into a different response — one that reflects the heart of the Father.

To “bless” means to speak life, to declare God’s goodness over someone, to pray for their flourishing. That doesn’t mean pretending the pain didn’t happen. It means refusing to let bitterness take root. It means choosing freedom over offense.

When we bless those who curse us:

We break the cycle of hurt.

We silence the enemy’s plan to divide.

We look like Jesus.

Remember, while we were still sinners, Christ prayed, “Father, forgive them.” The cross wasn’t conditional. It was mercy poured out anyway.

Sometimes the most powerful worship you will ever offer isn’t a raised hand in church — it’s a whispered prayer for someone who hurt you.

Bless them anyway.
Pray for them anyway.
Love them anyway.

That’s Kingdom living.

Prayer

Father,
You see the wounds I carry. You know the names and the moments that still sting. Today, I choose obedience over offense. Give me the strength to bless those who have hurt me and to pray for those who have mistreated me. Remove bitterness from my heart and replace it with Your compassion. Teach me to love like Jesus — not conditionally, but faithfully.

I trust You with justice.
I trust You with healing.
Help me bless them anyway.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
