Before The Flood

Devotion: Before The Flood

Scripture: Proverbs 17:14

"Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out."

Most arguments don't begin as major conflicts. They start with a word, a misunderstanding, an offense, or a wounded feeling. What begins as a small crack can quickly become a flood that damages relationships, families, friendships, and even our own peace.

God's wisdom is different from the world's wisdom. The world tells us to defend ourselves, win the argument, and prove our point. God's Word often calls us to humility, patience, and restraint.

Choosing peace is not weakness. It is strength under the control of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus demonstrated this throughout His earthly ministry. He was insulted, falsely accused, mocked, and rejected. Yet He never allowed anger to control Him. Instead, He trusted His Father completely.

There are moments when speaking up is necessary, but there are also moments when wisdom says, "This isn't a battle worth fighting." The Holy Spirit can help us discern the difference.

Today, if you find yourself standing near the edge of an argument, ask God for wisdom. Before the flood begins, choose grace. Before the storm breaks, choose peace. Before your emotions take over, choose His voice.

The peace of God is always greater than the satisfaction of winning an argument.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for being patient with me even when my emotions try to take control. Teach me to walk in Your wisdom and not react from pride, anger, or hurt. Help me recognize the moments when I need to be silent, when I need to forgive, and when I need to trust You instead of defending myself.

Let Your peace rule my heart. May Your voice always be louder than my desire to be right. Give me the strength to choose grace, mercy, and humility in every relationship.

Before the flood begins, help me walk in Your peace.

In Jesus' name,

Amen. 🙏
