Be My Rock of Refuge
📖 Psalm 71:1–6
“In You, O Lord, I put my trust; let me never be put to shame… Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually… For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth.” — Psalms 71:1,3,5
There is something powerful about calling God our Rock. A rock doesn’t shift when storms come. It doesn’t panic when winds rise. It stands — firm, unmoved, dependable.
Psalm 71 is not written from a place of comfort, but from need. The psalmist is surrounded by pressure, opposition, and uncertainty. Yet instead of collapsing under fear, he runs toward the Lord and says, “Be my Rock of refuge.”
That word refuge means a place of safety — not temporary cover, but a stronghold you can return to again and again. The psalmist even says, “to which I may resort continually.” This isn’t a one-time rescue. It’s a lifestyle of dependence.
The song Be My Rock of Refuge echoes this cry. It’s not just poetic language — it’s a daily confession:
When I feel weak, You are strong.
When I feel exposed, You are my shelter.
When the ground beneath me feels unstable, You are the foundation beneath it all.
Verses 5–6 remind us that this faith isn’t new. “You are my trust from my youth… By You I have been upheld from birth.” God has been faithful before. The Rock has already proven Himself steady. The refuge has already held.
Today, whatever storm you’re facing — criticism, uncertainty, spiritual fatigue, financial stress, family tension — you don’t need to stand in your own strength. You can run to Him. Continually. Not just when it’s unbearable, but when it’s inconvenient. Not just in crisis, but in quiet.
The Rock is not far away.
The Refuge is not locked.
The door is open.
Run to Him.

Prayer
Lord, You are my Rock and my Refuge. When fear rises or circumstances feel unstable, remind me that You do not move. Teach me to run to You continually, not just occasionally. Be my strength when I am weak, my shelter when I feel exposed, and my hope when doubt tries to creep in. I trust You today and always. In Jesus’ name, amen.
