As It Is in Heaven
Matthew 6:7–15
Devotion
In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches us how to pray — not with empty phrases or endless repetition, but with sincere, trusting hearts.
He begins with relationship:
“Our Father in heaven.”
Prayer is not performance. It is family conversation.
Then comes surrender:
“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Heaven is the place where God’s will is fully embraced, fully obeyed, fully trusted. Jesus teaches us to ask that what is true in heaven would become true in us — in our homes, our choices, our hearts.
When we pray “as it is in heaven,” we are saying:
Let Your rule shape my reactions.
Let Your holiness shape my habits.
Let Your mercy shape my relationships.
Jesus moves from surrender to dependence (“Give us this day our daily bread”), to forgiveness (“Forgive us our debts”), and then to transformation (“Lead us not into temptation”).
Heaven touches earth when forgiveness replaces bitterness.
Heaven touches earth when trust replaces anxiety.
Heaven touches earth when God’s will becomes our desire.
This prayer is not just words to recite — it is a blueprint for a surrendered life.
Today, ask yourself:
Where in my life do I need heaven to break through?
Prayer
Father in heaven,
Holy is Your name.
Let Your kingdom come in my heart today.
Let Your will be done in my thoughts, my decisions, and my relationships — just as it is in heaven.
Provide what I need for today.
Forgive me where I have fallen short, and help me extend that same forgiveness to others.
Lead me away from temptation and guard my heart from distraction and sin.
Shape my life so that heaven is reflected in how I live.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
