Who Will Rescue Me
Scripture:
“I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from Me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5
Devotion:
We live in a world that constantly tells us to push harder, do more, be better. Even in our faith, it’s easy to slip into striving—trying to earn closeness with God or prove that we’re “doing enough.”
But Jesus offers something completely different: abide.
To abide means to remain, to stay connected, to live in constant relationship. It’s not about working harder—it’s about staying closer.
In John 15, Jesus paints a simple picture: He is the vine, and we are the branches. A branch doesn’t struggle to produce fruit. It doesn’t stress or strain. It simply stays connected—and life flows naturally.
When we disconnect, we feel it: dryness, frustration, exhaustion. Not because God moved—but because we tried to live without the source.
The beauty of this invitation is that abiding isn’t complicated. It looks like turning your attention back to Him. It’s choosing His presence over pressure. It’s trusting that being with Him matters more than doing for Him.
You don’t have to force growth. You don’t have to manufacture peace. You don’t have to carry everything on your own.
Just stay.
Stay connected. Stay close. Stay in Him.
Because everything you need is already flowing from the Vine.
Prayer:
Jesus, help me to stop striving and start abiding. Teach me what it means to stay connected to You in every moment. When I feel distant or overwhelmed, draw me back to Your presence. Remind me that I don’t have to do life on my own. Everything I need is found in You. Amen.
